AHS says South zone has 35 COVID patients in hospital

By Medicine Hat News on February 18, 2021.

On Wednesday Alberta Health Services reported 35 patients with COVID-19 in hospitals in the South zone.

Of that number a total of five are at Medicine Hat Regional Hospital.

Chinook Regional Hospital in Lethbridge is at 28, with seven in ICU.

The Pincher Creek Health Centre had one patient with COVID-19 and the Cardston Health Centre also had one.

It should be noted, as previously stated by Dr. Deena Hinshaw, Alberta’s chief medical officer of health, that the number of patients in a specific hospital does not necessarily mean they all had a postal code in proximity to that hospital. For various reasons some patients may be moved to a facility outside the area in which they live.

According to the official numbers released by Alberta Health on Wednesday afternoon, effective up to the end of the day on Tuesday, there had been 36 hospitalizations in the South zone and eight in ICU.

Some official numbers made available Wednesday for the areas in the South zone where there are COVID-19 cases in hospital: Medicine Hat, 20 active cases; Cypress County, two; Lethbridge, 211; Lethbridge County, 14; Pincher Creek, 26; Cardston, 52.
