Despite being forced to close its doors for four weeks, the Medicine Hat Public Library will still be operating to serve Hatters.

The public library will close its doors Saturday at 5 p.m. and will shift to a curbside pickup and drop-off method. People will be able to call the library to make arrangements to take out books and other material.

“We’re going to jump right into our no-contact pickup model,” said head of marketing services Gillian Reimer. “People can call us and we will schedule something with them so they can pick up books, movies, music, video games and whatever else they need.

“We’ll also have craft kits available during the time we’re closed as well.”

The public library is also hosting online programming through its YouTube page for all ages to enjoy.

“All of our programming is still online and people can check out social media pages and our YouTube page,” said Reimer.

The public library is still selling its new merchandise and is getting more colouring books in stock in batches.

When picking up books, people are asked to ring the doorbell at the side of the building that faces the Esplanade. Books will be dropped outside and people are asked to distance themselves from the doors when waiting for pickup.

Hours will remain the same for now, with the library operating 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. on Monday, Wednesday, Friday and Saturday. Tuesday and Thursday the library is open 10 a.m. to 8 p.m.

To reach the library, call 403-502-8525. Browse the library’s digital shelves at mhpl.shortgrass.ca. Reimer says those who cannot use the internet can have librarians help them find materials.
