Suspects sought after highway fireworks fight causes grass fires

By Medicine Hat News on October 14, 2020.

RCMP in Redcliff are looking for motorists who they say engaged in a duel with fireworks as they drove down the Trans-Canada Highway over the weekend.

“Numerous” grass fires were started Saturday morning after what police allege one person shot back at a trailing car as they travelled from Alberta to Saskatchewan.

Dry, windy weather on Saturday morning, plus an active fire ban at the time in Cypress County made for dangerous conditions, say police.

The RCMP have determined from security cameras that the two vehicles and three men stopped at a gas station in Walsh at about 10:20 a.m. on Oct. 10, where one of the parties bought fireworks.

Later, police say, a person in the lead car discharged the fireworks at the second as they drove eastward in to Saskatchewan.

The vehicles were a late model Chevrolet Impala, dark in colour and a newer, blue Ford F-150 pickup truck.

All three suspects are described as Caucasian males, standing between five-foot-10 and six-feet tall, and weighing about 160 pounds.

One with a “mullet-style” haircut was wearing a Moosehead lager T-shirt.

Anyone with relevant information should contact the Redcliff RCMP at 403-548-2288.
