A market for mental health is being held Oct. 10 at the Redcliff Legion.

The Hatters Helping Hatters Market in Support of Mental Health will run from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m., and will offer a range of locally-crafted goods, as well as information on mental health supports.

“One of my big goals with this was to provide access to resources and information people may not know where to otherwise get,” said organizer Emily Wallin. “We will have local vendors there as well that people can support to keep their money local.

“We are also having the food bank come down to accept donations.”

There will be 40 tables set up at the Legion during the market. Eight tables will be resource and advocate tables and two will be sanitizer stations. The other 30 tables will host the vendors.

“We have a great variety,” said Wallin. “We have baby items, everyday adult items and we have jewelry.

“We tried to make this as diverse as possible to encourage as many people as possible to come out.”

The space was donated by the Redcliff Legion for the market to use.

“We’re really thankful that we’re able to use the space,” said Wallin. “Oct. 10 is actually World Mental Health Day so this seemed really fitting for us.”

Wallin says she has seen sadness spread in the community and wanted to do something to help raise awareness for mental health.

“I have friends and family who were really close to some of the people we have lost recently,” she said. “Our city recently lost a 14-year-old. I’ve got two little boys who will be that age eventually. That one really hit close to home for me.

“As a parent I started looking for resources and realized I had no idea where to get them. I wanted to give the community a chance to figure out what resources are there for us.”
