SW Saskatchewan communities cash in on infrastructure funds

The Town of Maple Creek will receive nearly $300,000 for its community fire hall through the latest round of Municipal Economic Enhancement funding from the Saskatchewan government, while Shaunavon will receive close to $246,000 for a variety of projects.

The province announced the $150-million program in May, and this week’s announcement brings the total projects approved to 497 worth a total of $38 million.

On the latest list of the approved grants, the Town of Leader will receive $124,000 for waterline replacement on Seventh Street.

In Shaunavon, $246,350 will go toward restoration work of the town hall ($50,350), Memorial Park Upgrades ($56,000), the Fifth Avenue walkway ($50,000) and three other projects, including a dog park.

In Burstall, just under $40,000 will be put into paving projects, and the Village of Sceptre will receive a total of $13,510 for sidewalk replacement and minor work at the water treatment plant.

Piapot will receive $43,400 for local bridge repair.

Fed. Cash for Taber

The Municipal District of Taber will receive $50,000 from Ottawa to better map and evaluate the state of its infrastructure, according to a release from the federal government and the Federation of Canadian Municipalities.

The Municipal Asset Management Program assists local governments manage roads, bridges, waterworks and other key pieces infrastructure, track condition and help schedule maintenance, upgrades and replacement work.

Also in Tuesday’s announcement, the City of Calgary will receive $50,000 related specifically to track quality of its pedestrian network, and Lac La Biche County will have $31,600 to develop an initial program.
