County of Warner now at 39 active cases, Alberta Health says no added risk to general public yet

A week ago Alberta Health was still reporting that there had been no cases of COVID in the County of Warner since the start of the pandemic. Then it all changed rapidly. According to Alberta Health there are now 39 active cases in this county alone. Alberta Health is not releasing specifics about individual cases, to maintain patient confidentiality, but says all of the cases are “linked to known sources and stem largely from a small number of gatherings in large families or social groups.” Tom McMillan, assistant director communications for Alberta Health says Alberta Health Services is watching the situation closely. “Health officials are in close contact with all those impacted and working to limit spread and protect the public health,” said McMillan. “Contact tracing and testing are underway of anyone who may be at risk.” McMillan says there is no increased risk for the general public at this time. The best tools of defence are still: If you feel sick you need to stay home and get tested. Continue to wash your hands thoroughly and frequently, maintain physical distancing and wear a face mask in crowded spaces, said McMillan. 11-10
