Friday’s COVID-19 update for Alberta featured two new cases in Medicine Hat and another two in Brooks, however Brooks also reported nine more recovered cases.
Brooks now sits at 52 active cases — seven fewer than Thursday — with 1,033 recovered and seven deaths. Medicine Hat climbed to eight active cases and 38 overall, with 30 recovered.
Across Alberta, 32 new cases of the virus were reported — one fewer than Thursday — however the number of active cases dropped from 926 to 865. The number of hospitalized cases was reduced from 59 to 54, though six remain in intensive care.
Two more deaths were reported, both at continuing care facilities, bringing the number of facility residents who have died to 100, while pushing the provincial total to 134.
Ninety-one more Albertans have recovered from COVID-19, bringing the total number of recovered cases to 5,801.
Calgary and Brooks were granted the ability to reopen more businesses on May 25 under Stage 1 of the province’s relaunch strategy.
