Stampede Queen competition has been cancelled

By Medicine Hat News on April 21, 2020.

The Medicine Hat Exhibition & Stampede Queen committee has decided to cancel the 2020 Queen competition due to the COVID-19 pandemic.

Entries were to have opened April 1, but because conducting a Stampede Queen competition requires significant planning and preparations, the committee felt it would not be consistent with Alberta Health’s instructions to stay home if events surrounding the competition were continued.

Most of the events that current royalty would have attended have either been postponed or cancelled, and the committee would like to provide the Stampede Queen Rayelle Smith and Stampede Princess Dionne Freimark with the opportunity to experience their reign as others before them have. The pair will continue with their reign until the Queen competition is opened in 2021.

The committee wishes to thank the community and Stampede patrons for their understanding, and further updates will be provided as the situation continues to develop.
