Medicine Hat gained a new business this weekend, with The Rail Yard opening its doors for the first time.

The antique store houses offerings from 13 artists from Medicine Hat and areas surrounding it. Owner Jarrett Lane says he is happy to see the grand opening finally take place.

“It’s exciting,” he said. “We’ve been open for a couple hours and we’ve seen a ton of support from the community.”

Lane says an antique store is something the Hat was missing.

“We needed this,” he said. “I really think we’re lacking for antiques and we saw a need for it.

“We figured we’d open up here and give it a shot.”

With a number of different collectors selling items, the store has a lot of variety, says Lane.

“We’ve got tons of different stuff down here,” he said. “This isn’t just a single antique store – we have 13 different people who rent from us.

“It’s a great selection.”

Lane says there is a lot to love about old stuff.

“There’s so much sentimental value with antiques,” he said. “They take us back to the past and it’s really fantastic to hold memories in your hands.”

The store is located at 423 North Railway and during winter it will be open Tuesday through Saturday from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m.
