Agecare ValleyView launches its annual Stocking Stuffers for Seniors drive

By Medicine Hat News on November 13, 2019.

Agecare ValleyView and London Drugs are teaming up to “help bring holiday cheer to socially isolated seniors in Medicine Hat,” according to a news release.

This is their fifth annual holiday donation drive for seniors – dubbed “Stocking Stuffers for Seniors” – for which they’re hoping to surpass the 2,500 gifts collected last year.

“The donated items are only part of the campaign. The true gift is taking the time to reach out and connect with seniors. You can see the impact written across a smiling senior’s face when our volunteers deliver the presents in person. It reminds them that someone out there cares about them – even if that person is a stranger they have never met,” said Kike Kola-Ojo, administrator at AgeCare ValleyView.

According to Statistics Canada, upwards of 1.4 million elderly Canadians report feeling lonely, which can have significant impacts on their mental and physical health.

To support this initiative, Hatters can stop by Agecare ValleyView or London Drugs from Nov. 12 to Dec. 16 and select a tag with a senior’s wish list from a Christmas tree, purchasing the items on it and bringing them back to the store by Dec. 16.

The gifts will be wrapped and delivered by volunteers in time for Dec. 18.
