The South East Hill Neighbourhood Association was created earlier this year with the goal of bringing community together and to show off what the area has to offer.

This weekend, the group will do exactly that.

From 2-4 p.m. Sunday, families will be able to take part in free activities at Central Park – all of which revolve around the Halloween theme.

“We’re calling it Pumpkins in the Park,” said group chair Jase Cowan. “This is a community event to help people get together and to know their neighbours.

“We’re hoping for good weather and to see a lot of people out.”

The event will feature pumpkin carving, hot chocolate, candy bags and plenty of chances to share smiles with family and friends.

“We started this to show the city what the South East Hill has to offer,” said Cowan. “It’s important that we’re connecting people to their neighbours. We want to promote all of the great things that happen in this area of the city.

“Events like this will help us bring the community together a little bit.”

While the afternoon is being held by the association, Cowan says there is no exclusivity to the event.

“This is for everyone,” he said. “We don’t want people to think that they’re not welcome because they don’t live in this part of the city – everyone on and off the hill are welcome.”

Cowan says more events will be organized and announced online.

Anyone looking for more information on the group or the event can search South East Hill Neighbourhood Association on Facebook.
