Emily Hudson is one of two recipients of the $2,500 Medicine Hat News-Medicine Hat Tigers Scholarship, which will go towards her kinesiology education at University of Calgary.

Emily Hudson, a Medicine Hat High School graduate who’s studying kinesiology at the University of Calgary, is a recipient of the Medicine Hat News-Medicine Hat Tigers Scholarship.

The $2,500 scholarship goes toward two former players in the Medicine Hat or Redcliff Minor Hockey of Ringette Associations.

“I really enjoyed the world of health and sport, and I wanted to apply that knowledge to help other people in their sports,” says Hudson.

She said she’s “not 100 per cent sure yet,” but is thinking of pursuing a master’s degree in physical therapy when she’s done her current program.

Hudson plays in the Open Medicine Hat Force ringette league, which includes players from the Calgary and Lethbridge areas. She also serves as a volunteer, junior coach and player ambassador for the Medicine Hat Ringette Association.

“Volunteering, especially for young athletes, gives them a strong role model. It’s really important to bring young people into sports,” said Hudson.

“It’s a really good way to socialize and stay healthy, and it’s just a really good experience.”

She says her scholarship funds are going toward tuition, which will free up some additional funds for living expenses.

“Calgary can be quite expensive,” said Hudson.
