Food, live music, underwear – can anyone name a better evening?

Those are the three key ingredients to an upcoming Pants Off for Mental Health event taking place next month, which will raise money for men’s health initiatives.

“The pants-off gala theme is that you’re fully dressed from the waist up in your shirt, tie and jacket – then you check your pants at the door,” said organizer Ryan Kingsley. “That leaves guys wearing their boxers for the rest of the evening to enjoy the company, entertainment, live music and drinks.”

The event is running Nov. 2 starting at 7 p.m. at Earls – tickets are $50 and are on sale now. Kingsley says money raised will stay local to help with men’s health initiatives in the city.

“We’ve teamed up with the Medicine Hat and District Health Foundation to raise funds and keep it all local in Medicine Hat,” said Kingsley. “Right now there’s two, including us, major charities working for this in all of Canada for men’s health – this is definitely needed, especially from a local standpoint.”

Kingsley says the goal is to have this be a yearly event in the Hat, like it is in bigger communities around the country.

“I know places like Toronto and Vancouver host this around the same time as the Plaid for Dad golf tournament,” he said.

“We just thought it would be cool to try to bring this event to Medicine Hat because we know this is a good cause.”

The event will have a pant check station for people who do not want to drive to the event with no pants on. Despite the fun atmosphere, Kingsley says this will be an upscale event.

“We’re trying to gear this as a classy event – sort of like a red carpet gala,” he said. “We want to keep it as a nice event that people can dress up for and have a good time.”

Kingsley says the event is also looking for sponsors.

It has a Facebook page that can be found at http://www.facebook.com/events/361719821385052/
