Two major cannabis retail chains have new applications before regulators to locate in Medicine Hat.

Planned local outlets for Nova and Hobo – each seeking to establish nationwide networks – are listed by the Alberta Gaming Liquor and Cannabis and are subject to a public feedback period regarding locations in the Gas City.

Nova is a store brand of Alcann, formerly North American Liquor Stores, of which Aurora Cannabis is a major shareholder. It proposes a location at No. 103, 1820 Strachan Rd., which is a newly built addition within the Strachan Corner plaza.

Hobo Recreational has applied for a licence to operate at 3034 Dunmore Rd., a former fast-food restaurant in the Park Plaza shopping strip.

That Vancouver-based chain is also applying for licences connected to new locations in St. Albert and two in Edmonton. It operates stores in Vancouver, Kelowna and Ottawa.

There are nine Nova locations operating in Alberta.

The deadline for public feedback on the locations are Oct. 15 for Hobo and Oct. 16 for Nova.

In total there are 11 cannabis retailers licensed to operate in Medicine Hat and 300 across the province.
