The Canadian Armed Forces is holding an open house and job fair event Saturday at Patterson Armoury with the hopes of getting more people involved.

The event begins at 10 a.m. to anyone looking for information about the armed forces, or what the South Alberta Light Horse offers career-wise.

“The army reserve is putting this on,” said South Alberta Light Horse second-in-command Scott Payne. “We’re welcoming anyone looking to learn a bit more about us and what a career with the armed forces offers.

“We’ll have the museum open but our main focus is showing people the main careers we have in the army reserve.”

The armed forces is offering armed crewman, support clerk, supply technician and officer positions for people to learn about and apply for. People are not required to bring anything to the open house.

“Our recruiting officer will be there on Saturday – he’s a great resource for anyone curious about the South Alberta Light Horse,” said Payne. “He’s also available Monday to Friday and Wednesday nights to people who need him.

“There’s a lot of opportunities here for people.”

Payne says the event is open for everyone and that anyone curious should show up Saturday.

“This is great for all ages,” he said. “From 16-57, people can join a unit and be part of something bigger than themselves, help Canadians and help our allies overseas.”
