Medicine Hat College is hosting a free information session Aug. 30 on the environmental and economic benefits of electric vehicles.

A news release from MHC says the event’s purpose is to “share unbiased and factual information” about electric vehicles and explain why many people are making the switch from traditional cars to electric.

Attendees will learn how charging stations work, as well as the various apps and websites designed to help drivers find public charging stations along their route to ensure they’re able to travel the maximum distance.

Of course, the event will include a stop at MHC’s electric vehicle charging station, where you can learn about how stations like it are popping up across the region and its potential impact on local tourism.

There will also be a talk from an electric vehicle owner on why they made the transition from gasoline to electricity, as well as information on government incentives for personal vehicles and business fleets.

The event includes a free lunch, which will be served at noon, after which the tour of the charging stations will occur.

The event, which is being organized by Community Futures, begins at 10 a.m.

Organizers are in talks to arrange for attendees to test drive an electric vehicle. Full details will be available the day of the event.

Those looking for a test drive opportunity should email Elizabeth Blair at EBlair@albertacf.com.
