Santa Claus Fund spreading a little Christmas cheer at Saturday’s Mavericks game

Attendees of Saturday’s Medicine Hat Mavericks game may notice some Christmas spirit in the area.

That’s because the Medicine Hat News Santa Claus Fund will be there for “Christmas in July,” along with Santa, the Grinch and Cindy Lou Who to name just a few Christmas characters, as part of its annual “Pack the Park Night.”

“The park will be decorated, there will be a Christmas carol competition, as well as prizes for best costume,” said Deanna Doerksen, executive director of the SCF.

The goal of the event is to keep the SCF ball rolling throughout the year, she added.

“We’re always fundraising to be able to support our families in need,” Doerksen said.

She says the Mavs are always strong supporters of the SCF’s work.

“They came to us with this idea and we were just so thrilled to be able to work with them,” said Doerksen.

The SCF provides people in need in Medicine Hat and the area with the means to have a merry Christmas.
