By Medicine Hat News on June 5, 2019.

SaskPower and a First Nations business consortium have an agreement to add more solar energy production to that province’s grid as part of the goal to reduce emissions by 40 per cent by 2030.

The First Nations Power Authority will developing 20 megawatts of renewable power in a deal that could be worth $85 million over the course of 20 years, SaskPower announced Friday.

Potential locations for two facilities are not finalized, though the principles are the Gordon George, Star Blanket and Cowessess First Nations, all located near Regina.

SaskPower plans to add 60 megawatts of utility scale solar by 2021, and last year began by announcing a new 10-megawatt facility near Swift Current that will be completed by Saturn Power in 2020.

That will be the province’s first utility-scale solar facility.

SaskPower signed a similar agreement with FNPA last year to develop flare gas power generation.
