Province conducting hundreds of commercial vehicle inspections this week

By Medicine Hat News on June 5, 2019.

Alberta’s Commercial Vehicle Enforcement Branch is stepping up inspections from Tuesday to Thursday to ensure commercial drivers are operating safely on the roads.

Roadcheck 2019 is part of an annual, North America-wide initiative conducted by agencies that fall under the Commercial Vehicle Safety Alliance, which operates in Canada, the U.S. and Mexico.

According to a news release for the Government of Alberta, there will be “hundreds of additional inspections at designated locations throughout the province.”

These inspections will include examining each vehicle’s mechanical parts, as well as the driver’s credentials and hours of service, with an emphasis this year on inspecting steering and suspension systems for violations.

“Campaigns like Roadcheck help save lives by taking unsafe commercial vehicles and drivers off the road before they cause collisions or lead to other hazards that endanger the public,” Alberta Minister of Justice Doug Schweitzer said in a news release.

“Ensuring commercial vehicles operate safely not only prevents collisions, it ensures people and goods move safely through Alberta and keeps our economy moving.”
