UCP MLAs to be sworn in Tuesday

Government MLAs will be sworn in Tuesday at 9 a.m., including Drew Barnes, MLA for Cypress-Medicine Hat, and Michaela Glasgo, MLA for Brook-Medicine Hat.

The swearing-in ceremony will be followed by the election of the speaker and deputy, the chairs of committees and deputies, which are done by secret ballot.

The election will take place at 1:30 p.m. and the first session of the legislature will commence later that day at 3 p.m.

There will be a speech from the throne by Lieutenant Governor of Alberta Lois Mitchell.

There will also be a 15-gun salute on the grounds of the legislature and performances by soprano Cara Lianne McLeod and the Royal Canadian Artillery Band. There will be a live broadcast online at assembly.ab.ca
