Regional skills competition lets students show their best stuff

By Medicine Hat News on April 27, 2019.

South East Alberta’s Regional Skills Canada Competition will give students in Medicine Hat and the region a chance to show off their abilities Tuesday.

Participants can compete in one of nine areas – automobile technology, baking, cabinet making, carpentry, culinary arts, hairstyling – intermediate and junior – video production and welding.

Most of the competitions will take place at Medicine Hat College, except for baking at Medicine Hat High and culinary arts at Crescent Heights.

According to a news release, the purpose of the competition is to “provide a platform for students to develop their skills, and to connect with post-secondary leaders in their community.”

The regional boundaries for participants are Taber to the east, the Alberta-B.C. border to the west, Vulcan to the north and the Alberta-Montana border to the south.

Students who place the best at the regionals will go on to participate in the 27th Provincial Skills Canada Competition May 8-9 at the Edmonton Expo Centre.
