A group of eight local dancers is going to Disneyland.
Hit the Floor Studio of Dance competed recently at Medicine Hat College and eight of its dances were able to bring home dance scholarships for a July trip in Anaheim.
“We’re excited and proud,” said studio owner and instructor Aston Breton. “I don’t know an exact number of kids that were competing but I would say there was around 300 there.
“I’ve never seen one studio take home half of the scholarships possible so to say we’re proud is an understatement.”
Breton says the kids spend hours each week working on their skills and that the scholarships are deserved.
“These kids work hard,” said Breton. “They’re always in class and trying their best and a lot of them won it based off showmanship – they’re really great performers.”
The winners from Hit the Floor are Dylen Pancoast, Miley Heib, Kieran Breton, Austin Willms, Cash Buckley, Meilah Wright, Shayla Smith and Sienna Vaudry – all of which are planning to make the trip in July.
“We’re going to be doing some fundraising coming up and we’re all going to try and make it,” said Breton. “We don’t have a lot of time to make this happen.”
The trip is July 2-10 and the group has a bottle drive planned for this week.
