Calgary man charged with impaired causing death after another dies in rollover

RCMP officers in Oyen have charged a Calgary man with impaired driving causing death after the SUV he was driving left the road and rolled over on Highway 9 on Sunday night.

The 30-year-old was driving the vehicle that left the roadway near Range Road 50, about 10 kilometres west of Oyen, injuring three men inside.

A 33-year-old man who was sitting in the rear seat was transported to an area hospital, where he died a short time later. Another passenger was also treated for his injuries.

Sompasong Rattanathongsay, 30, was arrested at scene and charged with impaired operation of a motor vehicle, impaired operation causing bodily harm and impaired operation causing death.

He was released and is set to appear in Hanna Provincial Court on Feb. 27.
