The Medicine Hat Women’s Shelter Society is gearing up for its biggest fundraiser of the year.
“We’re excited,” said executive director Natasha Carvalho. “Tickets are on sale now and people can purchase tickets individually and as a table.
“This is our biggest event of the year and it brings in a lot of money for us — we’re hoping people can come out and support us.”
The Bread and Roses Gala takes place March 9 at the Medicine Hat Lodge and is running for a seventh consecutive year.
“All of the proceeds raised will go right back into our programs at the shelter,” said Carvalho. “I don’t have the numbers in front of me, but over the years we’ve likely raised around $300,000.
“This is the event that helps us keep our doors open all year round.”
On top of dinner and a fun night, Carvalho says it is important to educate people on the work the shelter does throughout the year.
“We always teach education and awareness at this event — it’s important,” she said. “Everyone knows someone who has been impacted by family violence and we want to teach people about it, but also about the services we provide in the community.”
Mahoney will be providing music for the evening.
Tickets are $95 each or $720 for a table and can be found on http://www.eventbrite.com or by calling the shelter.
