The Spin for Kids initiative, which aims to raise money for athletic programs for special needs children, is looking for participants and recipients.

Participants join teams, then raise money from sponsors for a full day of exercise on Nov. 17 at the Hat’s GoodLife Fitness.

Avalon Hauck, who’s in charge of the initiative this year, says the intention of the event is to provide grants to local community groups who offer athletic opportunities to special needs kids.

This year’s goal is to raise $10,000.

Hauck says she hopes to have 10 teams of eight people participating this year.

Each teammate is expected to raise a minimum of $125.

They will be able to participate in all the classes the gym offers — yoga, zumba and spin, among others.

There will also be a silent auction and a few prizes given out at the end of the day around 3 p.m.

“If you need to sit out, you’re more than welcome to sit out,” said Hauck. “You don’t have to work out all day if you can’t handle it.”

Those interested in registering, either as a team member or grant recipient, can do so at spin4kids.com.
