Alberta Health Services is once again offering workshops for chronic disease sufferers.

A six-week series on Wednesday nights is designed to help people take control of health and improve quality of life.

The workshop, through Better Choices Better Health¨, addresses issues related to ongoing health conditions, such as diabetes, heart disease, arthritis, high blood pressure, obesity, chronic pain, fibromyalgia, Crohn’s disease, colitis, celiac disease, mental health concerns and others.

Workshops are led by AHS health-care professionals or trained volunteers, many of whom live with a chronic disease.

Those living with chronic conditions often face similar challenges so topics covered will include solving problems and setting goals, handling pain and fatigue, medications, emotions, physical activity, healthy diet and effective communication with health-care providers.

Workshops are held at the Medicine Hat Public Library from 6-8:30 p.m. beginning Oct. 3.

There will be separate “chronic pain workshops” on Mondays from 1-3 p.m. commencing Oct. 29. These will be held at the Alberta Health Living Program.

To register call 403-529-8969 or toll-free 1-866-506-6654.

If you can’t attend a workshop in person, there are also workshops available online. To register for these go to: https://betterchoicesbetterhealth.ca/online/
