MHPL hosting theatre play on living with schizophrenia

A theatre play on what it is like to live with schizophrenia will be performed at Medicine Hat Public Library theatre on Oct. 2 at 7 p.m. Admission is free.
Inter-Act Theatre Society is bringing Starry Night to Medicine Hat. It reveals what it is like to live with the disorder and the challenges for family members. It is an opportunity to learn more about schizophrenia and mental illness and create awareness for more compassion and understanding.
This play is performed in “reader’s theatre” style. Members of the cast use scripts throughout the performance, which allows them to feel comfortable in their roles. Each performer brings a unique story of a personal journey.
The performance includes an interactive “question and answer” opportunity so those in the audience can ask questions of the participants. They can be questions about schizophrenia, the performance or their own personal experiences of illness and recovery.
Starry Night is an extraordinary revelation about very remarkable individuals who have unique insight based on optimism, courage and hope to all that are touched by schizophrenia.
Schizophrenia is a serious mental illness affecting about 300,000 Canadian men and women. Symptoms often occur in men in their late teens or early twenties and in women in their late twenties or early thirties. The course of the illness is unique for each person, according to the website for the Schzophrenia Society of Canada.
