The day couldn’t have been drawn up better for the 32nd annual Toy Run in support of the Santa Claus Fund.

Sunshine and near 30-degree weather brought out more than 800 bikers from Medicine Hat and the surrounding area for the annual ride — raising between $20-25,000 in toys for the Santa Claus Fund.

“It was a great ride for us this year,” said promotional director Heather McCaig. “Every year we see around $20-25,000 in toys donated and I think we’re in that range this year.

“There was over 800 bikers this year — that’s a great number for us.”

The event shut down Dunmore Road for a bit of the afternoon and McCaig says it’s always for a good cause.

“The Santa Claus Fund helps so many people in our community,” she said. “This event brings together so many different parts of the community and can help so many people have a great Christmas with support like this.”

Bikers left Irvine at 11:30 a.m. sharp and made their way down Dunmore Road while waving to large groups of Hatters looking on.

“This is a tradition for a lot of people,” McCaig said. “There’s a big sense of camaraderie with the bikers and we know there’s so many people in the community who look forward to this every year.

“The support has been amazing.”
