Advanced polling took place Thursday in Maple Creek for two candidates running to replace former Mayor Barry Rudd, who stepped down in May.

The byelection candidates are Michelle McKenzie, a current councillor, and Tina Cresswell, a business owner in the town.

General voting will take place Sept. 12 at the Maple Creek Armoury, but advanced polls were scheduled to open Thursday afternoon at the Southwest Integrated Healthcare Facility.

The next general elections for urban municipalities in Saskatchewan are scheduled to take place in 2020.

This fall, voters in even-numbered rural municipalities will elect local leaders on Oct. 24. Nomination day in those races is Sept. 19.
