Many things in life are best enjoyed paired together — magic and comedy might just be one of those pairs.

During this year’s Medicine Hat Exhibition & Stampede, James Jordan will be putting on his magic and comedy show on the Stay in Medicine Hat Free Stage every day at 12:30 p.m., 3 p.m. and 5:30 p.m.

“It’s more than just a magic show,” says Jordan. “I’m a magician, a comedian and a vaudevillian, and I mix all three of those things together to put on the show.”

The show takes elements from all of Jordan’s disciplines and works them into one large, laugh-filled show.

“I try and make it as funny as I can,” he said. “To start the show I gather as much of a crowd as I can and start out with some smaller stuff.

“As more people come and join the crowd the tricks get bigger and the show gets bigger — every show will have laughs and every show will have juggling.”

Jordan marks 1997 as the start of his career, which is when he brought home is first award.

“It’s been a downward spiral every since,” he joked. “The warm months are extremely busy as a magician — there’s always something to do.

“When it gets cold and people want to stay inside, I’m out of work. That’s when I start travelling to other places around the world that want me to put on a show.”

Jordan says he is always excited to be at a stampede, and is excited for this week’s shows in Medicine Hat.

“It’s always a fun environment and the crowds are fun and will play along,” he said. “With three shows in a day, they’re all going to be different, so if people see a show going on they should definitely stop by and try to watch some.”
