Local author to present her first novel at library

By Gillian Slade on May 17, 2018.

A local author will celebrate the publication of her book with a presentation that everyone is welcome to attend at Medicine Hat Public Library on May 23 at 7 p.m.

Elizabeth Clements’ first published novel is an historical romance set in 1897 in the Cypress Hills because of its interesting Western history and the beauty of the landscape, she said.

The book, Beneath A Horse-Thief Moon, explores the challenges of trust in relationships with the role secrets can play.

“There’s lies, secrets and passion, about sacrifice too,” said Clements. “Love is enduring. Time passes but the heart remembers.”

A self-confessed “incurable romantic,” Clements began plotting the story outline in the late 1990s, drawing on her experiences of summers in the Cypress Hills. It is a relaxing read rather than an emotional one with some conflict with the main characters, said Clements.

Beneath A Horse-Thief Moon is probably going to appeal to women more than men but it is certainly not a “sissy” book, said Clements, who has lived in Medicine Hat since 1974.

Beneath A Horse-Thief Moon is the first in a trilogy with the second book due to be published this fall and the third one next spring.

At the event on May 23 there will be a video production of stunning photos of the area that the books are set in. Clements will also talk about her writing career that goes all the way back to 1982 and a life-long desire to write and be published. She has advice for other writers.

“Never give up on your dreams,” said Clements.

Copies of the book will be available on May 23 for $20 each.

It is published by Prairie Rose Publications in the U.S. and is available on Amazon.
