A 27-year-old man has been arrested in relation to an incident where a stolen vehicle was driven into a local car dealership doors early New Year’s morning.

Medicine Hat Police report that on Jan. 1, they responded to Davis GMC Buick on the Trans Canada Way SE, for a reported break and enter.

Entry to the business gained after unknown suspect(s) drove a stolen vehicle through the doors of the business.

A short time later the same morning, patrol members attempted to perform a traffic stop on a burgundy Ford F350 which was observed driving erratically. Attempts to stop this vehicle were unsuccessful and no further attempts were made due to public safety concerns.

Later that same morning patrol members once again observed the same Ford F350. Further attempts to stop this truck were made, and as a result of an unknown mechanical issue, the driver abandoned the pickup, fled the scene on foot and was quickly arrested without incident.

The 27-year-old man remains in custody until a bail hearing, and faces several charges including break and enter, theft, two counts of possession of stolen property over $5,000, dangerous driving, three counts of breaching his probation, resisting arrest, possession of stolen property under $5,000, and possessing break and enter tools.
