Santa Claus paid a visit to Southview Community School on Thursday morning bearing presents for one and all.
However, Santa’s sleigh was not pulled by reindeer this time, but rather by the bright red pickup trucks of Cardinal Energy Ltd.
“Cardinal Energy has decided to forego a staff Christmas party this year,” explained Southview principal Todd Samuelson, “and they have used those funds to buy presents for every student here at Southview School.”
Samuelson said the act of generosity was touching for everyone involved with the school community.
“Coming from a lower socio-economic community, a lot of these kids would be getting little to nothing this Christmas time,” he stated. “So it’s just amazing; and it’s not only special for the kids, but for the adults in the building as well.”
Before the morning was out, Santa had visited every classroom, and every single boy and girl had received a special present with his or her name on it. And the best thing was, no one had to wait for Christmas morning as students eagerly tore into the brightly-coloured wrappings to reveal dolls, cars and other toys to take home at the end of the day. For Southview students it was a great start to their winter holidays.
