Two people have been charged after they were seen illegally dumping goods at The Post thrift store.
The incidents, captured on camera, happened on Aug. 18 and 23. Medicine Hat’s municipal bylaw enforcement services confirmed the identities of those responsible and they were charged with offences under the Environmental Protection and Enhancement Act and fined $115.
Illegal dumping has long been a problem for charitable groups, which often are forced to cover the costs of cleanup. Charitable groups have restricted donation times, installed signage and installed surveillance in attempts to cut down on the illegal dumping by citizens.
According to a release from the Medicine Hat Police Service large appliances, refrigerators, beds, mattresses, baby cribs, car seats, TVs older than 2005, and items that are in overall poor shape or disrepair are among the items that are not accepted.
