One man is in custody after a multi-hour standoff with police on Lethbridge’s west side Wednesday afternoon.
Lethbridge police responded at 1 p.m. to an apartment complex in regards to a mental health situation.
LPS deployed the Critical Incident Team, K9 units and the Explosives Disposal Unit. They shut down access points for several hours on all adjoining roads and asked the public to avoid the area.
Police also asked the media and the public not to post officer locations and activities on social media, as doing so “poses a risk to officer safety and may compromise the investigation and police response.”
A man claiming to live at the apartment complex however, was posting information and photos to various social media platforms about being boarded up in his apartment. Police did respond to one of his social media posts saying they are there to help him.
The investigation is ongoing and no further information will be released by police at this time.
