Hatters got a chance to workout and get a good sweat on this weekend for a good cause.

For the next week or so, Goodlife gyms across Canada will be holding the annual Spin 4 Kids fundraising campaign, which personal trainer Kerri Lawton says goes towards getting kids active.

“It’s something Goodlife started a while ago,” she said. “The money goes into a big pool of money, where different organizations can apply to, to put towards things like after school programs to get kids active.”

Lawton says dozens of Hatters came out to the gym to take part in various activities, such as cycling, zumba and yoga. She said the people she has talked to all have the same goal of getting kids fit.

“Kids sit,” she said. “They go to school and sit, and come home and sit, so we’re hoping these programs we end up funding can help end a bit of that sitting, and can create more activity.”

Lawton says the Medicine Hat location is hoping to raise $10,000 during this year’s campaign, and have raised more than $5,000 as of this weekend.
