The Western Canada Lottery Corporation has released its prize and sales for the year of 2016.
Last year, 57 prizes of $1 million or more were claimed on tickets which were purchased in the prairies, totaling more than $218 million given to people across 29 different areas.
Alberta won three times as many tickets as the surrounding prairie provinces, winning 38 times for a total of $130.8 million. The next closest was Manitoba, winning 11 tickets and $13.6 million.
There was one $50 million prize in Alberta this year, going to a woman from Irma, which has a population of approximately 500.
The total sales numbers for the WCLC were $959 million, with the most revenue coming from Lotto Max, totaling $426 million.
