Local artist unveiling works in support of cancer ward

By Mo Cranker on September 21, 2016.

A Medicine Hat artist will be unveiling her newest line of paintings as well as raffling one off Thursday night in support of the Margery E. Yuill Cancer Ward.

Theresa Eisenbarth, who has been painting for four years, will show off her exhibit at the Cypress Club, which features 21 paintings of iconic sights in Medicine Hat. She will also have three incomplete paintings on display.

The event, which is open to the public with a $5 admission cost, begins at 7 p.m. and runs until 10 p.m., with the raffle winner being selected at 10:15 p.m. There will also be Scotch tasting for $20.

To participate in the raffle, one can purchase a ticket for $100 at the event, Eisenbarth said cancer has always been an issue close to her.

“I’ve known a lot of people that have unfortunately passed away from cancer,” she said. “When I began painting four years ago, I wanted to pick a social cause to support and at that time both of my sister-in-laws were diagnosed, so it made sense to pick cancer.”

Eisenbarth said this year’s event is in honour of Tanya Ellis, a local woman who has recently begun colon cancer treatments.

The piece up for raffle is worth approximately $2,300, said Eisenbarth, and features flowers painted in her “expressionist contemporary style.”

When asked to describe her style, she said, “I don’t follow traditional rules or colour schemes. As long as an image looks right to me, I just do it.”
