There’s a new name and a new owner, but the same dedication towards sales and the community is still in place at a local car dealership.
Jim Mellish has been the owner and general manager at Medicine Hat Nissan (formerly Sun Country Nissan) since July.
“When this opportunity came up, it was perfect,” said Mellish.
Mellish has been involved in the automotive industry for 14 years, starting as a lube technician on the service side of the industry. For the past four years, Mellish worked at Lethbridge Toyota, managing parts and service.
Mellish says he brings unique skills from his time on the service side to his role as owner and general manager.
“It can be a bit frustrating and scary dealing with the service of a vehicle for a lot of people who don’t know much about vehicles. I bring that to the table as well,” he said. “A knowledge of parts, service, warranty, really how to help and have the tools to be able to help through the process.”
Mellish says his goal is to put down roots in the city, and also hopes he and the dealership can continue to be involved in the community.
Mellish says the dealership had a “record month” in September, and is looking to do the same in October.
To celebrate the new name and owners, Medicine Hat Nissan has been running a grand opening celebration and sale, through the week which wraps up on Saturday. The Breaking Bad Food Truck will be on site Saturday from 11 a.m. -4 p.m., and anyone who comes in to take a test drive will receive free lunch.
Medicine Hat Nissan is located at 1750 Gershaw Drive, and can be found online at http://www.medicinehatnissan.com.
