Reception tonight for Sakamoto exhibition

The public reception for local artist Susan Sakamoto’s new exhibition takes place tonight at the Esplanade.

According to the Esplanade website, Sakamoto’s recent work delves into the deeper mysteries of life through personal and family history. Using multiple layers of paint and other media, and generations of original family documents, Sakamoto’s process is akin to that of the Japanese patchwork technique, boro.” Boro is the title of the show.

Sakamoto shares the reception with the exhibition The Writing on the Wall: The Work of Dr. Joane Cardinal-Schubert, RCA.

The reception begins at 7 p.m. and features refreshments, a cash bar and music by Taking August.

An exhibition tour with Sakamoto will take place on Feb. 1 at 10:30 a.m. A curators tour for the other exhibition will take place at the same time.

Both exhibitions run until March 28.
