Ontario artist Piper Hayes and her partner Carson Thorpe will be in the Hat on July 19 for a 6 p.m. show at Inspire Studio to play a wide variety of songs from their catalogue.

“We’re really excited to be back in Medicine Hat,” said Hayes. “We haven’t been there as a pair since last August and we really just love coming to Medicine Hat – we really love the people we’ve met there.

“It’s always a really nice to come through.”

Hayes played a show earlier in the year at Cafe Verve with good friend Annie Sumi – Hayes says she and Thorpe will be playing new songs as well as tunes from their album.

“We’ve been working on writing an EP or an album we want to put out in the next year,” she said. “We’ve been thinking a lot about what people and the planet need right now and we want to tap into that.

“We’re in a really unknown time with humanity right now – we think a lot about healing and we want our music to reflect that.”

Hayes says the duo is trying to add more storytelling and community building into their shows and to offer a different experience from show to show.

“It’s definitely going to be different from the last time we played,” she said. “We want our art to speak to people and to be relevant for people at the show.”

The pair will both be playing guitar during the performance and both members will sing during the show.

“We writing songs now that are focused on bringing Carson’s voice out a little more,” said Hayes. “This last year we’ve really wanted to expand our sound as a duo and to work on the good things we both bring to the table.”
