Self Portrait by Dawn Olson is on display in the Hat Art Club and Medicine Hat Potters Association Biennial Exhibition at the Esplanade.

The Esplanade’s dedication to the local arts and culture scene will be in high gear for much of the summer.

That’s because members of the Hat Art Club and the Medicine Hat Potters Association are currently showcasing their talent, dedication and imagination with their biennial exhibition.

According to the Esplanade’s website, “Sixty-three local artists and ceramists will be presenting works in this year’s celebration of skill, creativity and enthusiasm.”

A wide variety of subjects and mediums are in the exhibition, from landscapes and portaits to vessels and sculptures.

The Hat Art Club is celebrating 73 years in 2019, and the Medicine Hat Potters Association 47.

Running alongside the Art Club and Potters Association exhibition is Terrestrial Beings. It features 12 contemporary artists from across Canada, embracing “their connection to the earth as fertile ground for deeper spiritual and intellectual exploration.”

Works in sculpture, painting, drawing and cut-paper presents “strange and wonderful works in which representations of the body and the land intersect physically, psychologically and metaphorically.”

A public reception with the artists will take place July 12 at 7 p.m. There’s free admission, and there will be refreshments, a cash bar and music by local duo Taking August.

The night will have no shortage of ways to get your art fix, as the Downtown Art Walk takes place the same night.

The exhibitions run until August 3.
