If you’re a lover of the music and dance of Vienna, then this might just be the show of your dreams.

The University of Lethbridge Opera Workshop presents “Vienna” City of Dreams on Feb. 10 at the Monarch Theatre. The show begins at 7 p.m.

“This concert is a great chance to hear the sounds that were hit parade tunes of their day,” says director Blaine Hendsbee. “Vienna was a cultural focal point for the development of what we call classic operetta music, and to this day, the city is filled with the sounds of waltzes, polkas and marches everywhere you go.”

Operetta classics from the Austrian capital will be performed during the gala concert. Among the more recognizable songs will be Johann Strauss’s “Die Fledermaus” and Franz Lehar’s “The Merry Widow.”

Thirty young artists from the Opera Workshop program will take the stage, including Medicine Hat natives Caleigh Seitz, Hunter Semrau, Christy Sparrow, Hannah Nickle, Kenaniah Schnare and Jacqueline Arthur.

The University of Lethbridge Opera Workshop is one of the top undergraduate training programs in the country and grads from the U of L Voice program have gone on to sing on stages around the world.

Advance tickets, $20, are available at the Monarch and on Eventbrite and tickets can be purchased at the door for $25.
