Artist raffling original painting to honour late friend

By Jeremy Appel on October 6, 2017.

A local artist is holding a showcase, scotch tasting and fundraiser for the Medicine Hat Hospital’s cancer ward on Oct. 12 at the Cypress Club.

Theresa Eisenbarth will be raffling her “Boldness Has Power” painting, which is dedicated to Medicine Hat College’s former dean of business, Jacquie Penner, who passed away from cancer in April.

“She was a very strong community leader for business, for students at the college and, of course, a really good friend of mine,” Eisenbarth said.

Tickets cost $50 each for a chance to win the painting, which is valued at $3,800.

This is Eisenbarth’s second year selling one of her artworks for the Margery E. Yuill Cancer Centre. She said she raised $3,000 last year.

Eisenbarth said her goal is to assist local cancer patients.

“If you do something with the Cancer Society, your money doesn’t stay here locally,” she said. “It was important for me for the money to stay here, so the people that you or I know that go to the hospital for treatments are actually benefiting from that.”

This year’s event is being held in conjunction with a Single Malt Scotch tasting, which Eisenbarth said was done to attract more people to the event.

“It’s also an opportunity to sell tickets to the raffle,” she said.

Admission to the event is $5 at the door. Those who want to attend can contact the Cypress Club at 403-526-2988 or Eisenbarth at Tickets are also available online at
