Ticked Off and Tickled Pink, July 30, 2024

Ticked Off

Why is the city hiring so many remote workers and not using our great local talent? Remote workers do not spend money back in our community with local businesses or involved organizations. This is not what I want my tax dollars spent on.

Tickled Pink

My favourite part of summer is riding my bike on sidewalks just so I can read about it here.

Tickled Pink

With Altawana Drive. So smoooooth.

Ticked Off

Who had the brilliant idea to fill cracks in the highway with gravel? They’re just making a mess and vehicles are throwing gravel at other cars.

Tickled Pink

Avenue Living is a great company to rent from for good tenants. It’s much easier to deal with an actual business than with an independent landlord collecting rental properties like Monopoly cards. My experience with Avenue Living is they adhere to rental guidelines in Alberta much better than individual landlords do.

Tickled Pink

That we built a new arena to bid on a Memorial Cup. Ticked Off that we let Lethbridge do it before us.

Ticked Off

It is nearly impossible to get a second opinion from a doctor in Medicine Hat. A patient gets one opinion from their general practitioner if they’re lucky enough to have one, then the only options to see another doctor is a walk-in or emergency, and that’s not the purpose for those services. A referral to a specialist usually involves a long wait and if it’s a progressive disease, such as many cancers, the prognosis gets worse the longer it takes.

Tickled Pink

By the parks staff who removed dead trees from our neighbourhood this week. Good job by the guys who came, and we appreciate the city taking care of this.

Ticked Off

The person who thinks Medicine Hat doesn’t need to grow has rocks in their head. Growth will keep the younger generation here. Growth is necessary to keep the Hat thriving.

Ticked Off

To the person who stated Naheed Nenshi was the most popular Calgary mayor. I grew up in Calgary, and Ralph Klein was the most and still is the most popular mayor and premier of Alberta.

Ticked Off

That the Medicine Hat Stampede parade is not televised. Some of us do have to work during it but would love to see it. Can it please get shown on TV like it was before?

Ticked Off

You have to be a special kind of stupid to think gravel lawns are a threat to the climate because grass is a “carbon sink.” The amount of water that gravel and other low-water use lawns save is leagues more important from a sustainability standpoint that any minuscule carbon-sink effect from a grass lawn. If you want a better future for your kids, to protect them from climate change, conserve fresh water.

Ticked Off

With drug offenders repeatedly caught committing crimes and breeching multiple court orders. Laws and punishments exist yet seem ineffective in deterring criminal behaviour. How frustrating for police, the courts and law abiding citizens.

Ticked Off

That the only way to see the Better Living and Visual Arts was to pay $10 Stampede gate admission.

Ticked Off

The city says “the tall weeds shade the grass until it gets established” on the berms, but now they have mowed it. I thought the weeds just go to seed. Did the blade of grass get established?
