Mural fest leaves legacy

By Letter to the Editor on July 20, 2019.

With the final colour applied and the last mural painted, the first Medicine Hat Mural Fest is complete and hopefully there are many more to come.

After three days of extensive and intense hours of planning and execution by a who’s who of local and international artists the legacy left behind will be enjoyed for many years to come!

Big shoutout to Jeff Goring and the numerous volunteers as well as the many great community-minded sponsors.

The contributions of the following artists can’t go unmentioned: Paret from Melbourne, Australia, Mediah and Bacon from Toronto as well as local talent Amanda Dawn, Josh Creighton, Willian Oskam, Kari Kanvas, Fasm and Spence Pleskie.

To view the completed works head out to the back lanes of Penny Profit and Deluxe Taxi (the alley behind the Assiniboia Inn), see three separate murals along South Railway starting at the Assiniboia, the wall behind Maple Avenue Tim Hortons, and the building on North Railway Street where Trophy World and the Summit are located.

This year’s mural fest is in the books and it is the hope of this writer that the legacy left behind puts Medicine Hat on the radar for future local and international artists once again leaving us with a visual legacy!
