‘Selective memory’ exhibited by Wanner

By Letter to the Editor on August 8, 2018.

Re: MLA Report by Bob Wanner — July 27

In reviewing this report, I marvelled at the long explanation on age and family advice.

Being somewhere near the same age of Bob Wanner, I think he has a selective memory regarding the legacy of previous (non NDP) governments. I am referring to the Conservatives from the time of Peter Lougheed and on.

He forgets about the twinning of Highway 1 which was a direct result of the negotiations of James D. Horsman, MLA for Medicine Hat.

He forgets about the fact (which, he, of all people should know) that the City of Medicine Hat, thanks to this same Jim Horsman, negotiated a deal that the city was tax exempt from producing electricity — the Payment in Lieu of Taxes (PILOT), as it was known inside City Hall.

He forgets about the first expansion of the Medicine Hat Regional Hospital under Jim Horsman.

Expansions to the Medicine Hat College happened while Jim Horsman was minister of advanced education.

He forgets about the building of the Provincial Court House while Jim Horsman was the Attorney General and Minister of Justice.

He forgets about the upgrades to the Medicine Hat Public Library under Jim Horsman.

He has forgotten about the Provincial Building which was built while Jim Horsman was MLA.

I could go on but I am just going from memory.

I will also remind Mr. Wanner that Dr. Lorne Taylor, MLA for Cypress-Medicine Hat was Minister of the Environment and brought many cabinet ministers and Premier Ralph Klein to Medicine Hat many times.

Minister Taylor developed all the watersheds in Alberta under his time in office and was chairman of The Water Institute.

Rob Renner, MLA for Medicine Hat, was Minister of the Environment and also regularly toured cabinet ministers to Medicine Hat.

So please try and remember this when your government is bringing back abortions to the hospital and drug injection sites and bubble zones to block free speech. That will be your legacy.
