The latest attack by Canada’s thought police has cost a senator her seat for not conforming to the “party line.” She failed to refer to the former residential schools in entirely negative terms. She recognized that there were some good-hearted people doing their best to impart knowledge to the students.
No one denies the trauma and continuing pain suffered by the survivors of abuse, but theirs is not the only story. Some students managed to thrive in the system and achieve an adequate education, but it is politically incorrect to admit this.
It’s a pity Canadian opinion-makers are so narrow minded they can’t think beyond the victimization of some to acknowledge the positive work of others.
