PONOKA, Alta. – RCMP say they have made an arrest in connection to an emergency alert that was issued Sunday warning of an armed and dangerous man in central Alberta.

Mounties lifted an order to stay inside today for Maskwacis and a rural area in Ponoka County, more than 100 kilometres south of Edmonton.

RCMP were looking for an armed 30-year-old Maskwacis resident who was described as six feet three inches tall, 250 pounds, with blue eyes and brown hair with blond tips and a buzz cut.

Police say a report from the public of a suspicious person resulted in RCMP finding the suspect.

Officers from Ponoka, Maskwacis, Red Deer, Wetaskiwin, Bashaw and Leduc detachments assisted in the search as well as the RCMP Emergency Response Team, air and police dog services.

RCMP did not release the name of the person arrested and have not announced charges, but say there is no longer a risk to the community.
