Forty years after he started the much-loved Greetergrammers program, Mark Campbell and a few of his merry pranksters are staging a reunion.
On June 30 at The Yates, nine members of the Greetergrammers crew will host a night of songs and reminiscing with proceeds going to the Logan Boulet Endowment Fund. Tickets are $25 and available at the Yates box office.
Toby Boulet will be speaking as well as Rhonda Dawes, who was inspired by Logan to donate her own kidney.
Campbell said in an interview that the Greetergrammers staged more than 20,000 events and only once did a person not appreciate it.
Greetergrammers started in 1982 and over the years more than 30 people joined Campbell as they surprised people on anniversaries, birthdays, farewells and other occasions with songs and skits. On some days they did as many as 19 shows.
“We never really did it for the money,” recalled Campbell, saying the amount they made basically paid for beer. Joining him at the reunion will be Dave Mikuliak, George Gallant, Linden Bray, Mike Day, Mark Ward, Thad Mandin, Lloyd Pollock and Mark Switzer.
They will be joined on stage by a band featuring Bente Hansen, Randy and Greg Paskuski and Neil Sheets who will provide musical help to the crew.
“We will be doing a bunch of silly things but we’re going to do some serious songs, too, songs that we take seriously. We’re going to try to do them right…everybody is very talented, they’re all really good vocalists and we want to highlight what they’ve done or what they can do,” said Campbell.
The show will feature some of the skits the Greetergrammers did and the first “victim” will actually be in attendance.
Campbel basically ended the Greetergrammers when he was elected to city council because of time constraints.
During their years, the group entertained people in virtually every restaurant in the city and got to know every shop in the industrial section, recalled Campbell.
